Tell us about your career goals, background, and experience.

My career goals are to cultivate a small animal practice that is high-quality medicine, a calm place for pets and their parents, and a positive place for our team to work and meet their professional goals. I have an interest in internal medicine, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery. The most inspiring part of my job is seeing an animal’s recovery, giving pets a second chance that wouldn’t have otherwise existed, bringing peace to animals who are suffering, and helping families make educated, evidence-based decisions for their pet’s health, from puppy or kittenhood to senior years.
I have over 15 years of experience in the veterinary industry, having worked in various roles within the clinic. I’ve spent time in large 24-hour facilities working in emergency medicine, as well as locumed in clinics all over BC, including remote single-practice clinics.

When you were a child, what career aspirations did you have?

As a child I aspired to become either a singer, a swimmer, or a veterinarian. My strong connection with animals and my fascination with anatomy and science played a significant role in shaping these early ambitions. Growing up by the ocean and in a community of hunters, my childhood was centered around immersing myself in nature, observing animals and learning about their behavior and physiology. Interestingly, despite my dreams, I failed to advance beyond level 2 in swimming lessons, and I couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it. Nonetheless, my childhood conviction was clear: I was destined to be a veterinarian when I grew up.

If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?

I would pick a bear as my animal counterpart. Bears possess characteristics that resonate with my own traits – they’re driven, (slightly)stubborn, deeply connected to nature and the outdoors, value family bonds, enjoy their food, display an energetic side, and also have moments of relaxation and lounging.

Where would we find you (when not working) on a sunny Okanagan day?

On a warm sunny Okanagan day, you would find me on the beach with my family or catching a view on a mountain bike ride.

What advice would you give to those looking to join your team?

Bring your adaptability! We are a new practice and will experience significant growth and change. You will need to be someone who can adapt as needed. We like to have fun and keep an open mind, but deep care for a patient’s well-being is a must.
