What are your career goals?
I’m right where I want to be, I just want to continue to be a better version of myself and to grow and develop my skills.
What’s the most inspiring part of your job?
It’s really exciting to see the advancement in Veterinary medicine happen on a daily basis. I remember as a young child losing pets to diseases that we now have vaccines against! There are so many things you just don’t realize are possible until the need arises and it’s just incredible to work in an industry that is so dedicated to always growing and helping our little family members.
When you were a child, what career aspirations did you have?
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I’d be an Animator, Paleontologist, or a Farmer when I grew up. I was an animator for a few years but then I realized that there were aspects of that career that didn’t mesh with my personality. I didn’t want to work in the desert so Paleontology was out. Still working on that farm dream!
If you were a flower, what would you be and why?
I wouldn’t, I’d be a cactus. They’re hearty, they don’t need a lot of care and maintenance and survive on very little water. Same, Cactus.
What is your background and experience?
I worked for 8 years at Canada West Veterinary Specialists in Reception and the Internal Medicine Department, Prior to that I volunteered at the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue (VOKRA), and the Marine Mammal Rescue (Vancouver Aquarium).
Where would we find you (when not working) on a sunny Okanagan day?
Kayaking on a lake, Walking my mum’s funny little dog Ritchie, or sitting at a lake knitting or reading. If it’s over 35 degrees, I’m inside with my cats a bunnies hiding from the sun.
What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join our team of superstars?
Have a sense of humor and bring your ambition! There is always something new to learn from every person you work with and every patient you see.
